TEAM NOTES
Defense + Lack of Hitting = Loss
It was ugly! When 4 players in the middle of your order go 0'fer, you are not going to win many games. We might have been in it had our infield not given up 6 errors. The bright spot in this game was our outfield, they tend to be pretty consistent regardless of how the infield is doing.
Through 4 innings of play it was 1 Bad Apple - 3, Rude Dog 2 - 2. 1 Bad Apple allowed 4 runs to score 2 of which were unearned on errors from short & 2nd. It was still close after 5 innings of play with the score 6-3 Rude Dog on top. The game was still easily within our reach up until that point. But a couple of errors by inexperienced players at certain positions costed us 4 runs in the top of 6 and we were down 10-3 going into our last at-bat in the bottom of the 7th.
Three of the first four batters reached base, but the bottom of the order was not able to do it the way they had earlier in the game. And it would end in a 10-4 loss.
A long drive...
For those of you who do not know, Raul Rizo lives in Stockton and usually does not make the 9:15 pm games, but I talked him into it since we were playing Rude Dog 2. He plays with these same guys on Thursdays during the Spring/Summer season. I wish we would have done better against these guys, but since all the teams make the playoffs I guess it was not crucial.
Below .500 again!
The loss dropped 1 Bad Apple to 1-2 which is somethhing we are not used to. We will look to bounce back against Souza's garage.
Quotable Quote!
I like the confidence from Hack. In the last inning Mike Lunetta said, "Get on basem I just want to hit." That is our quote of the week from a player with some great at-bats as of late. Mike is getting lower pitches to swing at and he is keeping his weight back which is helping him drive the ball harder--good job Hack!
Defensive Gems
Give a round to the outfield as they had a great "errorless" game. The one bright spot on the infield other than our catcher Pat "the Beast" Rubacaiva was John Mapes at 3rd.
Shinning Apples!
Well the only 2 batters with more than one hit were Mike Lunetta who went 2-2, scoring 1, driving in 1; And Rick Banuelos who went 2-3.
On Deck...
