TEAM NOTES

The Other 1 Bad Apple...

With 2 players not showing because of prior committments, I was a little concerned. Then I got an email from Tom Sarvela that told me he may be having shoulder surgery...Then I got an email from Jaimie and she told me Mariano Rojo had the flu, and just like that we were down 4 players. Then I got an email from an exhausted Bill Harris who said he was very tired from a LONGGGGGGG weekend tournament down south. And yes, then I got a voicemail from Mike Lunetta whose truck broke down and we were down more than half our team.

The problem with subs is that they are almost never as good as the starters, or they would be on the team------right? Well, a mentally exhausted coach called up everyone he knew and even asked his sister if she was available, ok I didn't go that far. But honestly, I was getting ready to call the 16 year old high school kids I coach headed by my MVP nephew.

Between Pat Rubacaiva (my lifesaver) and I, we managed to fill 4 spots. I must admit that the team played well in our 16-4 5.5 inning game. Thanks Pat! And thanks Alfred, Jeremy, John & Brian for the good game.

Confusing Lineup...

As most of you know, it is no free ride to have a player on the roster. If you are not a resident of Santa Clara, there is an additional $7.00 per player. Due to this added cost I tend to not add players to our roster unless I know they will play in more than 2 games. Consequently, when we do have a sub, they usually play under a regulars name. Tuesday night I had printed a roster for the lineup, but the problem was that when we posted the lineup, I forgot who was playing in who's place. We pretty much arranged the lineup as the players batted--one player asked who is playing as Tom Sarvela, and the team directed Alfred to go bat. That was too much!

Eventually everyone remembered their names and we did good.

Warning Track Power...

With the new ASA ban on most of the power bats, it is evident that the power is missing just a bit. The ball doesn't travel as far as it did with that good old Miken! I am just happy to see that my bat was not banned!

Quotable Quote!

Jeff Saito gave Raul Rizo the ultimate compliment when Raul fielded a ground ball up the middle Jeff yelled, "Way to cover the middle." I think it was a lucky grab.

Defensive Gems

Well I must start by saying way to dig it out Pat! Pat dug out a ball that got the first out in an inning. Geoff Chuang looked as good in right (a tough field to play at Mission) as he does in left. Jeff Saito and Alfred did a great job charging the ground balls through the tall grass on the outfield.

Shinning Apples!

Raul Rizo, Benny Aguialr, & John Mapes each went 3 for 4. Raul had a 2B and a bomb of a homerun and John had a deep 2B.
